Murang’a County Investment Forum

Murang’a: Where Proximity Meets Opportunity, and Growth Becomes Investable

Nairobi, Kenya | 25 September 2026

KCCCI Delegation Joins Murang’a County’s 2nd Investment Forum to Explore a New Frontier for Investment

Murang’a County is positioning itself for a bigger role in Kenya’s industrial and investment story — and the Kenya China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCCI) was there to listen, engage and explore what this opportunity could mean for investors.

On 25 September 2026, KCCCI sent a delegation of 10 members, led by Secretary General Mr. Harbin Zhao, to the 2nd Murang’a Investment Forum 2026 at Ole Sereni Hotel, Nairobi, hosted by H.E. Dr. Irungu Kang’ata, Governor of Murang’a County.

The forum brought together investors, manufacturers, government leaders, diplomatic representatives, business leaders and strategic stakeholders around a central proposition: Murang’a is ready to move from being known primarily as an agricultural county to becoming a significant industrial and investment hub.

The County Government itself describes the agenda as ‘Unlocking Murang’a as an Industrial Hub’, with opportunities spanning manufacturing, agro-processing, industrial parks, logistics, renewable energy, real estate, agriculture value addition, mining, tourism and other strategic sectors.

A County with More Than Agriculture

For investors looking beyond the traditional investment destinations, Murang’a presents an interesting proposition. Its greatest advantage may be the combination of proximity, productive agriculture, available land, infrastructure and an emerging industrial ecosystem.

The County’s investment materials identify the Murang’a Industrial Park, County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP), SME industrial clusters, the milk processing sector, tourism, technology and innovation, healthcare and other areas as key investment opportunities.

The Murang’a Industrial Park, according to the County’s published investment guide, covers approximately 1,300 acres along the Nairobi–Embu Highway, with dedicated areas for an EPZ, SEZ, light and heavy industries, a medical city, technology and innovation, commercial activities and supporting infrastructure.

For agriculture and agro-processing investors, the proposition becomes even more compelling.

The County Aggregation and Industrial Park at Zabka near Kabati covers 29 acres, with infrastructure development underway and a specific focus on agriculture-based manufacturing, processing, packaging and value addition. The County states that the site is approximately 35 kilometres from Nairobi CBD.

This is the kind of ecosystem that can turn agricultural production into industrial value, manufacturing capacity, jobs and export opportunities.

From Farm to Factory

Murang’a’s agricultural strength is not simply a story about production. It is a story about what happens after production.

The County’s industrial investment plans specifically highlight value addition around products such as tea, coffee, avocado, maize and macadamia, creating opportunities for investors to establish processing and manufacturing facilities closer to the source of raw materials.

The dairy value chain is another significant opportunity. The County says Murang’a produces more than 600,000 litres of milk daily, while its milk processing facility presents opportunities for strategic partnerships, expansion and greater value addition.

For an investor, this raises an important question: What if the next major opportunity is not simply buying what Murang’a produces, but building the industry that processes it? That is where the investment proposition becomes particularly interesting.

The Governor’s Message: Unlock the Potential

The message coming from the County Government has been consistent: Murang’a wants to create an environment where investors can establish businesses, add value to local resources and participate in the County’s industrial transformation.

In the official invitation to KCCCI, Governor Kang’ata described the engagement as an opportunity to position Murang’a as ‘Kenya’s next manufacturing frontier’ and a leading destination for industrial investment in East Africa. That ambition was at the heart of the forum.

The County has also indicated that investors can engage directly with the Governor, County Executive leadership and technical teams, while exploring investment facilitation mechanisms and opportunities for manufacturing, processing and value addition.

For KCCCI, this is an important conversation.

Why China Should Be Looking at Murang’a

China has demonstrated the transformative power of industrialisation, manufacturing clusters, value addition and infrastructure-led economic development.

Murang’a is now looking to build an ecosystem where investment can connect land + raw materials + infrastructure + markets + technology + manufacturing.

That creates a natural conversation for the Kenya–China business community.

Chinese investors and enterprises with expertise in agro-processing, manufacturing equipment, industrial technology, renewable energy, logistics, construction, ICT, healthcare, packaging and value-chain development could find areas of mutual interest in Murang’a’s emerging investment landscape.

KCCCI’s role is to help create those bridges.

Our delegation’s participation was therefore not simply about attending another investment dinner. It was about identifying opportunities that can be translated into actual business conversations, partnerships and investments.

And This Is Only the Beginning

KCCCI is now looking beyond the forum.

Plans are underway for KCCCI and the Murang’a County Government to explore a formal Memorandum of Understanding in the coming months, creating a framework for deeper cooperation in investment promotion and trade.

One of the proposed areas of collaboration is to take Murang’a’s investment proposition directly to the Chinese market — showcasing the County’s priority projects and opportunities to Chinese investors, manufacturers and business leaders.

The vision is to facilitate a dedicated Murang’a Investment Forum in China, bringing together the County Government, KCCCI, prospective investors and strategic business partners, with structured B2B meetings and investment deal rooms where specific projects can be presented, investor interests matched and potential partnerships taken forward.

Murang’a is open for business.

And for KCCCI members, the opportunity is now to look closer.
